My name is William Scudder, a student at Glastonbury High School and co-founder of The Tennis Broz.
My journey with tennis began long before high school. Growing up internationally in Japan and Italy, tennis became a constant in my life. Whether biking to our local courts in Nagoya or adjusting to new communities, the sport gave me a sense of discipline, connection, and purpose.
After moving to Connecticut in 2018, my brother and I continued playing competitively and eventually joined the Glastonbury High School Varsity Tennis Team. Through that experience, we began to notice something: While tennis was an important part of our lives, access to quality equipment and resources wasn’t equal for everyone in our community.
That realization led us to start The Tennis Broz, a small, student-run tennis service and community initiative. What began as a simple idea to restring racquets for teammates quickly grew into a broader effort to serve our local tennis community.
Today, The Tennis Broz provides:
Racquet stringing and regripping services
Affordable support for local players
Equipment collection and redistribution
We donate 50% of our profits to support the Glastonbury High School tennis team, helping improve opportunities for current and future players. The remaining funds go toward supporting our continued education, as we both hope to pursue academics and athletics at the collegiate level.
Beyond services, one of the most meaningful parts of our work has been our equipment donation initiative. We collect used tennis and pickleball racquets and redistribute them to under-resourced youth in the Greater Hartford area, helping expand access to the sport we love.
Tennis has taught me more than competition. It has taught me about initiative, resilience, and community impact. Through The Tennis Broz, I’ve been able to turn a personal passion into something that supports others.
If you have racquets to donate or are interested in our services, please reach out. We’d love to connect.
